Pop Culture Icons Caution Hillary
Sharon Stone and Madonna feel that the time isn't right for Hillary. Stone feels that Hillary isn't past her sexuality, as if it is holding her back from being a viable candidate. Stone contends that her sexuality is threatening. Having a women run may be threatening to the patriarchal structure in the U.S., as Madonna believes, men and women a like are not ready for a women to run the country we have maintained a tradition where white men control most of politics and breaking through this barrier may require a woman with such strong character and resonance to leave a lasting impression in voters minds. The time may not be right and it has not been right for a very long time and in twenty years if no one trys to break through this norm it will never be the right time. In order to create attention something drastic may need to happen to jostle people and get them interested in changing our current system and having a woman run for president may be just what we need to open minds and cause people to become passionate about fighting for what they believe in. Ultimately, if nothing changes year after year we become more and more set in our ways and it becomes much harder to make a change. Slowly chipping away at male dominance within the institution is not enough and Hillary running for president may just be the perfect catalyst to serious questioning of the government and possibly eventual change.
In terms of media attention the use of celebrities and their opinions draws a lot of attention, even though it may be dramatized creating a story out of essentially nothing. The media can just about use anything celebrities say to get people interested in a story since we as a society are so obsessed with celebrity, so for Hillary these types of comments help to get her noticed by putting her in the spot light, hopefully increasing her growing group of supporters.
